Exovera’s recent report, PLA Service and Theater Command Articles Published in January 2025, provides an in-depth examination of the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) online content, analyzing the coverage of its four military services (Army, Navy, Air Force, and Rocket Force) and five Theater Commands. The report details the publication of Chinese-language articles while highlighting the abrupt cessation of English-language content on the Ministry of National Defense (MND) and China Military websites starting in January 2025.
Key findings reveal that of the 71 articles published, only two were in English, both found under the “Top Stories” tab. The majority of Chinese-language articles focused on the Army, which accounted for 30 of the 69 Chinese articles. The report also identifies patterns in article publication, such as a likely quota system for Group Army mentions, recurring discussions of operational challenges like cold weather and high-altitude conditions, and a strong emphasis on adherence to Communist Party guidance.
